Bundle flooring by material, contain sharp pieces, and keep the loading route separate from the installation area. That gives the crew a clear picture of the load and keeps new finishes away from dirty tear-out material.
Prepare each material
- Roll carpet and pad into manageable sections and secure each roll.
- Stack laminate or plank flooring flat.
- Place tile fragments in sturdy containers that one person can safely handle.
- Keep tack strips and exposed fasteners in a separate marked bundle.
- Do not mix wet flooring with dry material.
Check before disturbing older material
Some flooring and adhesive products can contain asbestos. Washington requires a good-faith inspection before covered renovation and demolition work. Testing belongs before tear-out, not after the material is broken and mixed.
